Brand: Darling Clandestine
Scent Description: Odd, hot and spicy. The kind of fragrance you might dig if you’re a fan of the smell of burning leaves and gasoline puddles. Not that it smells like those things specifically, but that’s the sort of sensibility Fire Eater might jive with. The very first DC scent, it’s undergone a couple of revolutions including a “fizzy grape” version, and I’m toying with the idea of re-releasing a unique edition each year.
I am not sure how Evonne has got “gasoline and fizzy grapes” to smell like something alluring to me but there you go. Bottle sniff: has a nice hit of chiles, not in a burning way but just what chile pepper candies smell like. Wet on skin: Two sides keep morphing around each other! The peppers and the gas puddle grapes. Actually, not knowing the notes would probably help here as I really can’t explain that gasoline being completely non-offensive yet still giving me the impression of gasoline. More like natural gas or ozone gas I suppose? The sweetness imparted by the grape (and maybe a bit of tamarind) make it surprisingly wearable. I imagine this is literally the sweet breath of a fire eater at the carnival right before the first flame. He’s had some candy and grapes before though – it dries down to those hot candies.
