African Orchid

Brand: Olympic Orchids

Scent Description: Pristine white orchids bloom in the forests of East Africa, filling the night with a mysterious current of primeval attraction that promises moist white flowers, a hidden cache of luscious nectar, and an experience of pure enjoyment for all of the senses. African Orchid is based on the scent of Angraecum and Aerangis orchids that only release their fragrance after dark, and are pollinated by sphinx moths whose tongue has evolved to reach to the depths of the flower’s extraordinarily long nectar spur. Not your usual white flower scent, African Orchid will evolve as you wear it, revealing new facets over the course of its drydown, but always staying true to the fragrance of the flower that inspired it. Released 2014. Notes: Orchid, jasmine grandiflorum, ylang-ylang, nectar, birch, clove, passionfruit, light woody musks, New Caledonian sandalwood, Madagascar vanilla.

  1. Rich, humid, almost funky florals on a fuzzy sweet woods base. The florals themselves are waxy and slightly vanillic, surrounded by green humidity. The ylang-ylang is adding some additional higher-pitched sweetness over the top. Underneath there’s a fuzzy, encompassing sandalwood adding to the THICK feeling of the entire scent – it’s sweet and encompassing and almost jungle-like. Decent projection and again lasts all day – if you like sticky, humid, unapologetic florals you will like this.

  2. African orchid is a sweet, humid, tropical floral x1000. The dominant note (orchid, I’m assuming) smells very similar to tuberose to me, but has a slightly greener quality to it. It’s almost like a honey or nectar, very viscous and rich white flowers, grounded on a foundation of sandalwood. Good projection and longevity- lasts 6+ hours on me.
