  1. Wet, it’s like a chai candle – an idealised image of chai with milk. The vanilla isn’t that strong. Dried down, it smells like chai that’s old and missing a few spices. I wished it smelled like a cup of strong chai, but I suspect I might be used to a different chai than the perfumer.

  2. I love Poesie’s teas, both in drinkable and perfume form but I find the Ghosts aren’t my jam. Firstly all the Ghosts I’ve tried are quite subtle and low in throw. They also share a similar sort of ‘watered down’ feeling, I guess because of the theme but they pale in comparison to Joelle’s other (excellent) tea blends like Opening Chapter or Twice to Tea. In Opening Chapter the cream note is gorgeous and true to life, never going funky or sour but the cream here is a bit plasticky/ artificial and the spices don’t really shine through, in fact I didn’t even realise it was supposed to be Chai until I looked up the notes again because it just smells like not v. good black tea and half and half, rather than whipped cream or chai. On the whole I think Poesie is not a house that does spices well. Even Madar, which people rave about, smells like watered down Nag Champa and I’m Indian so I’m used to what Indian spices/ desserts smell like. Maybe that’s the problem, I was expecting something rich and spicy but Poesie spices smell a bit flat and one dimensional.
