mild musk scent with vanilla. Reminds me of hand cream – is that the cream or the wax? A few hours in, and it smells of light musk with a touch of citrus in the back.
To me this smells like Flossing with the addition of the lemon and champagne notes. It’s musky, creamy, waxy and sweet ( not cloyingly so) all at the same time. I feel like this is another work appropriate scent as it sticks close to the skin.
A bit like a hug from someone wearing really nice perfume. It’s warm and cosy and cashmere-feeling, a little bit of skin musk and a frilled, faded edge to the scent, and it’s so hard to describe apart from that it smells “really nice” to quote many a person, myself included. It smells like vanilla and wax and sunlight, like a faded perfume and a soft bit of lemon and a blown-out match, like a high quality wool scarf and being bundled under blankets that smell like your mum’s perfume in front of a winter fire. Or sometimes it smells like the smell when you go into an attic or a shed, or go through old photo albums or get the winter coats out after a long summer. Or sometimes it’s just damn pretty. It changes and is hard to pin down. I really love Madam X, but I can’t describe it. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I wonder why the hell I love it, but I gotta admit… it’s kinda got me hooked…
This is my absolute favorite indie scent. On me, it smells like if my skin naturally smelled like vanilla, musk, and the barest hint of lemon. It has some serious staying power, 12+ hours easily. I usually describe Madame X as “my skin but better” and it’s the perfume I find myself reaching for most often.
This one has some staying power, and a nice medium throw. I’ve been curious about it for awhile.
Something about the mix of lemony, creamy champagne in the opening is deeply appealing. It’s a mixture of familiar and new, subtle and surprising. The musk pops in rather soon and is a bit discordant and jangly, but soon begins to settle as it dries.
This is one of those scents that keeps you coming back for another sniff, and by the time you think you understand it, it has changed again. The scratchy, mildly ugly musk turns soft and sweet, while the gentle cream rolls into a bitter vanilla that keeps the whole composition intriguing as it develops.
I can really see the association to the idea of Madame X. I was expecting a sophisticated evening perfume, and I got something a bit soft and gourmand. Then just when I thought it was a bit plain and simple, it revealed its depth and elegance.
I love this scent. I get a musky, lemony musk that lasts all day without being overwhelming. Often just smells like warm skin to me. It doesn’t feel at all seasonal and appropriate for everyday wear.
It’s heavy on the musk. Very custard-like, as others said, with a hint of citrus thrown in. I still don’t know how to feel about this. One day I like it, the other day I don’t.
This one is exactly the same for me. I like it one day and the next it reminds me of cheese. It’s a strange one.
Vanilla and baby wipes. I think the musk overcame this one for me.
