Edge of the Night

Brand: Solstice Scents

Scent Description:

Edge of the Night is a sensual spicy chypre. It is an elegant yet edgy blend best suited for evening wear when you’d prefer something a little more daring and sexy. This is a perfume that loves to be paired with a bold red lip, stilettos and a leather mini. It’s beautiful, mysterious and fearless.

Edge of the Night is a blend of amber, oakmoss, aged patchouli, bergamot, black vanilla, a touch of red musk and buddha wood and a delicate blend of organic clove EO, star anise EO and cinnamon. This fragrance also contains a nominal amount of lavender absolute and agarwood. The drydown smells deep, ambery, musky, sweet and a little spicy. On initial application, all of the notes are vying for attention at once with the bergamot top note emerging to the forefront. The bergamot dissipates rather quickly as it makes way for the other elements with the focus on a generous spike of amber. The spices are harmonious and not dominant or overpowering. It takes some time on the skin before the undercurrent of black vanilla becomes apparent. It will manifest with a rolling sweetness and a touch of powder but will not overtake the other deeper notes.

  1. A well-blended spicy chypre out of the vial, I nonetheless do detect oudh and lavender between the herbal spiciness of star anise + clove and tart bergamot, the combination almost camphorous in its sharpness. They are juxtaposed against a hazy base of cool, resinous amber and inky oakmoss draped over rich red musk, much softer than that of Monarch. The creamy, spiced vanilla and dry woods project the most heavily, and go on to dominate the drydown.

  2. I’ve only been wearing this for a few hours but I had to get on here and say that this smells just like Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew. Do they still make YD? Wonder if it smells the same…probably not. Big names completely kill their signature scents by multiple reformulations. An example of what I’m talking about is YSL’s Opium. Ruined by reformulations! I know the issue is ingredient sources disappear but better off to let a great perfume die rather than reformulating. Back to Edge of the Night…smells EXACTLY like EL’s Youth Dew. I’ll have to see what happens with time.

  3. As I have kept this scent around longer, the more it has grown on me. It is a complex, outdoorsy scent that is dark and warm. The oakmoss and amber are the most prominent notes and the rest are noticeable on dry down. It leans slightly masculine, but not un-feminine.
