  1. This isn’t a fragrance that “contains a licorice note,” or even “a fragrance” centered on licorice – this is the licorice fragrance! It’s almost pure black licorice on application, and on the dry down there’s an undercurrent of something else herbal (my nose picks up fennel), but it’s still the licorice bomb I was looking for. Projection is mild, but longevity is out of this world (we’re talking: you’ll likely wash this off in the bath before it fades naturally). This also layers incredibly well.

  2. Oh wow, this smells exactly like the Pizzelle cookies that my Gram used to make around the Christmas holiday. Pizzelle’s are Italian waffle cookies that are traditionally flavored with anise extract. They look a bit like a flat waffle cone although I’ve eaten them as Cannoli shells before too. And don’t confuse Cannoli with Cannelloni, which is a type of pasta. Okay I’m way off the subject here sorry. And now I’m hungry too! I love this for the scent memory alone although it’s quite delicious. I can smell a subtle herbal fennel note along with the licorice root but the main star is anise. If you’ve ever smelled anise extract when baking it’s pretty much the same scent. The Mallow part seems to mellow out the sharp smell of black licorice. The vanilla adds a sweetness without being too gourmand. It’s kind of strange to me that I love this scent so much when I cannot stand the taste of black licorice, anise or fennel. This is a good scent to wear when you have an upset stomach, a lot of these notes seem to help with nausea. If you like the scent notes in this description then I think you will really enjoy this. Very well done. I’ll be getting a FS bottle for sure.

  3. This is the licorice lovers, licorice. The must have. It’s the black jellybeans from Halloween Night without the other candy notes overshadowing it. The Mallow base is the same as the other Mallow scents, adding a little bit of soft fluff to cushion all that strong licorice.

  4. I have Black Mallow in both the original and reformulated versions and enjoy them both, though I do prefer the old formulation as the black licorice was stronger and packed more of a punch. I think the new one is a better perfume though. It is a little softer and has more of an herbal side to it, with the fennel and anise included (they were not in the old formula). The old one is pretty linear and most people think I smell like good n plenty candy when I wear it. The old one was probably only good for people who genuinely want to smell like they are made out of black licorice, while the new one is good for people who like the note but don’t want to be so literal.

  5. After mellowing for a couple of months, the anise/licorice root become a soft yet interesting background to the marshmallow. It’s very reminiscent of a gentler Smoky Mountain Mallow. It lacks the smoke, but the marshmallow still smells roasted and gooey (but never cloying). This one’s a winner for me.

  6. I ordered a full size during this years 2018 Halloween release for my boyfriend- he’s a huge fan of black licorice and loved this. It smells just like black licorice and vanilla which is what I was hoping for. The black licorice isn’t over empowering and the vanilla is nice and sweet.
