Brand: Solstice Scents
Scent Description: Crimson Sap & Sassafras is a deep dragon’s blood forward perfume. Sassafras has a distinctly root beer meets birch scent. It pairs remarkably well with the deep, spicy, resinous and cola aspects of dragon’s blood. Crimson Sap & Sassafras is further enhanced with a beautiful palo santo essential oil, frankincense resin, anise, fluffy marshmallow, sticky benzoin, a touch of vanilla cream soda and deep crimson musk. The cream soda is subtle and enhances the root beer to read reminiscent of a root beer float. The anise is present but never overshadows the robust sassafras heart note or the deeper spicy resins. Palo santo reads as dry, woody and sacred and adds a complex top note to the sassafras. Crimson Sap & Sassafras is a full-bodied and rich unisex perfume.
Started out very lovely, I adore Dragons Blood and a root beer vibe so I thought I would love this one, but there is this underlying bitterness that just kinda ruined it for me 😦
UPDATE: Apparently this is one of those oils that truly benefits from a good long rest. I found the old sample of this that originally prompted me to buy the FB and the bitterness was gone, all I got was beautiful Dragons Blood incense and a rich creamy root beer vibe. My advice with this one is LET It REST!
Definitely birch beer upon opening, but with an almost marshmallow quality to it. Cream soda begins to show up soon after application and only gets stronger with time. It blends with the Dragon’s Blood to create a beautifully musky and almost incense-like pink scent that is playful and intriguing. Definitely a bit of an oddball, but I think it’s really soothing and nice.
Oooh yum rootbeer! Imediately on my skin I can smell the sassafras…it’s a rootbeer meets a slight wintergreen smell. It mellows into a woody resinous rootbeer on me and I cannot get enough. It’s strangely calming. I can’t really pick out any of the other individual notes and I can’t detect any anise or marshmallow on me at all. As this fades it looses it’s sweetness and goes more masculine on me. That’s a first. Usually unisex scents go more to the feminine on me as they wear. This isn’t for everyone but if you like rootbeer or sassafras then you will enjoy this. I wish the sassafras note lingered longer on me in this blend.
At the start it’s definitely craft rootbeer – I would drink the hell out of it if it were real – but then the dragon’s blood and vanilla cream soda start to temper it and make it into something really interesting. It is still very much reads like a soda and has a fun effervescent yet woody quality. It’s like the fanciest birch beer or root beer you will ever get, something at a hipster shop infused with dragon’s blood and woody marshmallow somehow. Like the description says on the website, it’s very dragon’s blood-forward in the best way.
