  1. I got this one in a Fall/Winter sample set that I had ordered. Looking at it’s notes, I NEVER would have even ordered this by itself. What can I say? I HATE black licorice with a passion. Lavender is always overpowering in scents and I’m not too fond of herbal scents either. Oh well, it was free, I might as well test it ou…..OH MY GOSH! WHAT IS THIS MAGIC!? This is AMAZING! I seriously can’t get enough. I hate the notes that it’s made up of individually, but OMG, when she blends them together, this is heavenly! It’s dark and scary, yet cozy and comforting all at the same time. I’m so glad I got to try this! New staple in my collection for sure!

  2. On my skin this starts out with the smoked lavender dominating and I’m not mad about it. I get a faint hint of licorice candy as the lavender begins to recede. Now the charred wood, embers and a bit of burnt sugar are taking center stage and bumping the smoked lavender to the background. I thought this would’ve been sweeter between the burnt sugar and the licorice candy but it’s much more to the smoky side of perfume oils. After about an hour or so the charred woods and embers mellow out and I can smell each and every note. Unearthyapothecary’s review got me thinking about Solstice Scents Black Mallow and now I’m wondering how the two scents would layer. This is the second scent I’ve tried thus far from Firebird. (The first was called Frangipane: pistachio paste, chewy almond cookie, smooth vanilla cream, swirls of caramel and powdered sugar…reminds me of HoG’s Twice Is Nice with the pistachio paste note in BM replacing the shaved coconut note in TIN.) Black Moon had a much stronger throw than Frangipane. In the end, on me, they both ended up wearing very close to the skin. Frangipane disappeared on me at about the 3 hour mark while BM has settled into the final dry down stage but is still going strong albeit close to the skin at 3 hours. My skin gobbles up scent so please keep that in mind while reading my review. BM’s smoky aspects settled down nicely after the first hour of wear. I could wear this almost year round with the exception being in the high humidity of summer. My order made it to me on time amidst the pandemic and chaos going on with the USPS. Brooke quickly replied to my questions and gave me some recommendations on scents she thought I would like. I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer at Firebird. I had a really great first time experience with this shop and I’m 2 for 2 out of the scents that I’ve tried. I recommend trying Frangipane if you’re into pistachio and almond smells. I feel like it wears close enough to be “work appropriate”. I listed the notes for that perfume blend above

  3. I adore Black Moon and I adore Firebird, I think it’s easy for snobs to turn their noses up at her simple labels and straight forward scent names but I find them a breath of fresh air when I get sick of navigating through massive scent catalogs full of oils with complex ingredient lists and esoteric names. her scents are spot on, have great performance and are far more complex then one would think. Black Moon is a mysterious witchy lavender and black licorice concoction with an underlying smoky head shop vibe. It’s honestly one of my favorite black licorice scents I love it far more then Alkemia Trick or Treat or Solstice Black Mallow. Fantastic stuff
