  1. This perfume gives me a major headache and makes me sick to my stomach. I wish I could say I liked it because it’s so popular but I hate it The smoke and marshmallow are way too strong and too heavy in a bad way.

  2. there’s a note that my nose doesn’t like – night musk? patchouli? vetiver? Not sure. Perhaps I’m amping a note that drowns out the rest, but I don’t get any frankincense or vanila or balsam or marshmallows. I suspect it’s my skin since others have had better experiences with it.

  3. This evokes such a Christmas mood for me, warm, cosy and the greenery doesn’t even think about becoming pine cleaner-ish which I find so many do for me. One of my absolute favourites. The vanilla and marshmallow are fluffy and snuggly and the whole vibe is cuddling up in a blanket in front of the Christmas tree.

  4. I amp the vetiver in this and it completely dominates for several hours. Unfortunately I do tend to amp vetiver which is a shame because I love it when vanilla and vetiver blend together. I get whiffs of the smoked vanilla (really like this note) and just enough of the cedar wood to keep it interesting. I’m happy the Frankincense in this isn’t too prominent. For me, if the Frankincense note is too strong, it can come across as medicinal and take over. The rest of the notes are blended together too well for me to pick them out individually. The Night Musk in this definitely adds to the longevity. I’m not a fan of the stages in which the vetiver is prominent but, I do like the end result…a musky vetiver vanilla blend. If only I could get this to go faster to the final stage! And I must agree with smokeyhoney’s comment, this does indeed stop just short of being creamy. I’m glad I took a chance trying this one out but there is just too much vetiver for my taste and it takes too long to settle into end stage for me to justify buying a FS bottle. If you’re a fan of vetiver and vanilla, I recommend trying out Possets A Lady and a Baby Unicorn. It’s basically vetiver and three vanillas blended together. Due to amping vetiver, I have the same issue as I do with this blend. This scent or Possets ALaaBU are good ones to try and see if vetiver/vanilla blends work out with your skin chemistry.

    1. I revisited Black Mass after some aging and had the same thing do down on my skin. Eff you skin chemistry! I’m amping vetiver and the marshmallow is non existent. Then I got a whiff of this on my clothes…hot damn I can smell the marshmallow and the smoked vanilla! Now this is what Black Mass is supposed to smell like. It figures, I love Hexennacht’s marshmallow note but it doesn’t love me in this perfume oil. For those of you who get the marshmallow, I envy you.

  5. I really enjoy this; I don’t think my nose is great at distinguishing the notes in it though. To me it’s just a well smoked vanilla, nothing too complex, but with a bit of a ‘dirty’ feel and good depth to it. It’s not very sweet and the smoke definitely has an incensy feel to it rather than an acrid or even woodsmokey one. I think the name is pretty appropriate!

  6. Smelling this in the bottle, I uttered an involuntary O.M.G.! I instantly picture Maria Brink in the “Oh Lord” video. I’m in a cabin in the woods, the crisp air filled with remnants of incense and sweat on the bedsheets. It smells like something sacrilegious is going on. It’s complex, dirty, and earthy, but also restrained and delicate… and that marshmallow note is the perfect kiss of sweet. Super sexy scent right here! I’m stoked. As this sits on my skin, I smell pine (?) every so often, but it’s chased by the marshmallow and I am thankful for it… personally not a fan of smelling like a Christmas tree. I’m guessing I’m getting that from the resinous quality of peru balsam combined with the herbs since there’s no actual pine listed. Regardless of its origin, the toasted marshmallow is the perfect counterbalance. I absolutely made the right decision in going straight for this in lieu of Moon. This is glorious.

  7. This is a complex scent. The balsam and cedar wood are at the front, and as it dries down I get the patchouli & frankincense. The vanilla and marshmallow stick around after that. Lasts for a good while, 4+ hours.
