I really like this one initially. I get different impressions with each successive huff. It’s got a restrained sexiness going for it, like a dwindling campfire… something hot and wild that’s cooling down and regaining control. There’s a nice, dark fruitiness at times that is positively delicious. The minute it hits my skin, it loses a lot of the depth. I’m getting the “firewood embers” mostly, with the other notes represented only as the fuel that burned to leave them… It’s no longer as complex as I want it to be. I can’t detect even a hint of dragon’s blood at any point either, which is a little disappointing. I almost smell sage at times, but I wonder if that’s just because I feel like I’m smelling something smoldering and my brain is making the association. To be clear, there’s no smokiness here. It’s what’s left after the smoke has cleared, like herby ashes. It occasionally veers into soapy territory the longer it sits too, which confuses me since none of these notes should equal soap. I had one of my guy friends try it on and it’s super soapy on him from the start, so YMMV. I liked this a lot at first… but it seems to be one heavily influenced by my skin chem, so ends up not being a match.
I have two favorites right now and this and Whip are it! Black Phillip is just warm comfort to me. You feel sexy and inviting, like taking a fleece blanket you’ve been wearing and pulling your partner in close to you under it. It’s not too sweet or too spicy but it is both sweet and spicy.
This, besides Coffin Nails from Hexennacht as well, is my favorite scent. I love the peppery earthiness, the slight sweet resinous quality, and the pure salacious sexiness of this unisex perfume.
I feel powerful and in control when I wear this, and if that isn’t the attitude of a witch with the Devil on their side, what is? It’s delicious and dark.
