  1. I don’t know how I feel about dragon’s blood. I’ve tried quite a few different houses and the results vary widely. On my skin the (unlit) pipe tobacco and the vanilla leaf seem to dominate. Vanilla leaf seems to last much longer than other Hexennacht vanilla notes on my scent eating skin. As the pipe tobacco and the vanilla leaf mellow, the dragon’s blood finally asserts itself. The dragon’s blood is very smooth. It has both an amber-like and cedar-like quality to it at times. It’s very interesting. The end result of this gives me vibes of (old school of ’85) Dior’s Poison for some reason. I don’t know what Poison smells like today. There are so many perfume reformulations that I’ve all but given up on main stream offerings at this point. This blend is a like and not a love for me. I feel like it needs additional notes but I’m unsure of what I’d layer this with off the top of my head. This lasts a good 7 hours on my skin.

  2. Something about that tobacco and vanilla combination. It’s both leafy and boozy. There’s a familiarity here but I can’t place it. I get a smoky whiff of dragon’s blood, then that pungent pipe tobacco aroma, another sniff you have herbaceous-yet-creamy vanilla leaf. All combined, there’s a flirty quality. I imagine a sexy nerdy demonologist in a library, going over an ancient illuminated manuscript, his hand going over a page, lingering over an illustrated drop cap at the beginning of a chapter. I think of aftershave and leather and dust. This is a scent I’m having trouble describing, but it’s very yummy.

  3. I have no idea what took me so long to try Daemon, but I very much regret it– it’s gorgeous! Smoky and sultry, with the vanilla perfectly complimenting the dragon’s blood. (Which is not the head shop-y blend I was picturing….. this is refined and smooth). Vanilla leaf seems to be a dusty? dry? version of vanilla. It’s not gourmand to me at all. Combined, these notes equal one sinfully stunning fragrance!

  4. This one is an instant hit with me. Very wearable. It reminds me a bit of Nicotine, with a purring complexity from that dragon’s blood note skimming along beneath the surface. I think I like this one more because of the different vanilla execution. I wondered what vanilla leaf was going to smell like and while it is lending the feel of vanilla, it’s nowhere near foodie-land. It’s a perfect complement to the other two notes, blending its own sort of dried herby quality into the others. Pipe tobacco has a specific kind of sweetness to it, but it’s so evocative of maturity and contemplation that sweet isn’t quite the right descriptor. It’s… ambrosial. Overall, this reads simple and straight-forward, yet it’s got fascinating juxtapositions happening. It’s just offbeat enough to stay engaging, just smooth enough to please a wide audience. I could wear this every day, going anywhere. It’s remarkable. Favorite.
