Vanilla Sea Salt

Brand: Firebird

Scent Description:

The beach never changes. (I mean it changes, but it doesn’t- you know what I mean?) Every summer for as long as I can remember– with my parents and sisters as a child, with my friends as a teenager and in college, with my boyfriend-then-husband for the decade that followed, and now with our own small family. It’s all still there.

The crashing blue waves and the shrieking seagulls, the salty mist in the air and the weathered gray planks underfoot, the unrelenting heat of the June sun beating down from a perfect blue sky, the thunder of the carnival rides and the giddy shouts and laughter from the arcade, the ice cream and cotton candy and tumblers of fresh squeezed lemonade beckoning from the boardwalk, if you could only rouse the energy to hike back across the sand.

Let me just say- this is a not an attempt to capture all of that in a literal way. But those decades of memories were on my mind when I was working on this scent. I have a few other ocean-inspired scents, but for this one I wanted something that evoked those summer memories on more of an emotional, subconscious level.

Sensory impressions: light cotton fabric brushing against sun-warmed skin; the inside of a seashell- creamy white, slightly pearlescent, impossibly smooth; vanilla soft serve- cool, sweet, melting on your tongue. That feeling when you’re in a place that profoundly relaxes you, where it feels like your lungs can suddenly pull in more air than they’re used to. The comfort of nostalgia.

A blend of creamy, soft vanilla and cool coconut water, tropical citrus and salty sea spray.

Released: Summer 2019

  1. Vanilla Sea Salt reminds me of something from my childhood…if only I could recall what that smell is! Eventually it will come to me. The coconut water note in this doesn’t turn to plastic on my skin and I’m blown away. It’s very much a coconut water note and NOT a coconut fruit note if that makes sense. Like the essence of coconut instead of the actual coconut, which I prefer. The vanilla in this is creamy and sweet but not gourmand in any way. This is almost floral but not in a sneezy way. I’m thinking the tropical citrus is tricking my nose. Vanilla Sea Salt smells nothing like the way I imagined it would and I like it. This is very much a summer scent to me. I would rock this in the dead of winter when I need some summer juju in my life. My only gripe with this is the longevity. That’s more of a skin chemistry issue and not a problem with the perfume oil. I’m reapplying this bad boy at the 3-4 hour mark. I wish Brooke would offer different strengths for her perfume oils as my skin eats up scents fast. Her prices are reasonable enough that I don’t mind reapplying throughout the day and going through my bottles quicker. Her creations are worth it. I’m continually blown away by Firebird’s perfume oils. There’s just something special about Brooke’s blending skills. Vanilla Sea Salt isn’t a scent that I’d normally gravitate towards but I like it a lot. This definitely earns the #1 spot in my perfume oils for summer vibes. I was thinking this would be a coconut dominant aquatic type of scent, thankfully it’s much more. I plan on making my way through all of her perfume oils. I’ve had a really good success rate so far. Vanilla Sea Salt is FS worthy for sure. And this comes from someone who usually doesn’t favor this type of scent. Good stuff.
